Every year, the end of May bank holiday marks one thing for dressage fans; it’s time for Somerford Premier League (27 – 30 May 2016). With classes ranging from Young Horse to Grand Prix, the annual Cheshire-based competition has become a firm favourite with spectators, attracting riders and visitors from all over the UK – and this year, the organisers at Somerford Park are proud to announce that classes will also be live streamed.
Action kicks off on Friday (27 May) with the Equine Construction Advanced Medium. Boasting a start list of 33 up-and-coming combinations, the class is sure to start the Premier League with a bang.
On Saturday, Gareth Hughes debuts new ride, Judy Firmston-Williams’ nine-year-old KWPN mare, Cleopatra II in the Fairfax Saddles PSG. They’ll be up against the likes of West Sussex-based Sarah Millis with her own Behroez and Katja Kuistila’s Furst Henrik, Sonnar Murray-Brown and his own Erlentanz – who claimed the Charles Owen Advanced Medium Open title at this year’s NAF Five Star Championships – and Matt Frost with AMD Don T Lavidoff to name a few.
Top names litter Sunday’s LeMieux Grand Prix class with Alice Oppenheimer (pictured with Headmore Delegate), Michael Eilberg, Emile Faurie, Charlie Hutton, Maria Eilberg and Spencer Wilton taking up just some of the spots on the start list. Young horses and ponies will also have their fair share of the spotlight with riders showing off their potential stars of the future in the Shearwater Young Horse and Pony qualifiers.
A perfect day out for all equestrian enthusiasts, Somerford Park is also host to a huge array of tradestands, so you can get your shopping fill in between the dressage action.
