Andrews Bowen, the number one for equestrian surfaces worldwide, this week announced its partnership with British Dressage as Official Surface Supplier.
The company, which builds technologically advanced arenas and gallops with surfaces engineered to work with the horse for optimum performance and enhanced safety, signed the deal on the back of a string of high-profile projects, a forensic approach to R&D and a track record of excellence.
Partnership with BD is particularly fitting given Andrews Bowen’s focus on the movement of the horse, with heavy investment in finding better ways to support dressage horses in training and competition.
Partner David Andrews said: “Expression and rhythm is important in dressage and a relaxed horse is essential for good marks. The horse’s confidence in the surface is everything when it comes to extracting every ounce of performance and keeping welfare paramount.
“Dressage has some very specific requirements which make particular demands of horses. High loads on the limbs are expected during controlled movements such as collected trot, Piaffe and passage. To work with these horses our surfaces offer consistency, stability and elasticity. Lower quality surfaces present some specific risks of injury and compromise in performance, from tripping and slipping to loss of balance.
“We have tested our surfaces and closely monitored and analysed the horses using them. We apply our knowledge as competition riders and the science we’ve researched. Consequently the surfaces we design for dressage horses and riders offer the highest levels of support for the demands of their discipline.
“The whole team is incredibly excited to announce our official supplier status.”
British Dressage’s Chief Executive Jason Brautigam added: “We are delighted to welcome Andrews Bowen on board as official supplier to British Dressage. As the surface provider at Stoneleigh Park and Hartpury, homes for our National and Winter Championships, as well as the vast majority of our Premier League venues, Andrews Bowen were the natural choice for BD. We will be looking to work together on a number of initiatives, including the inaugural Organisers Conference in October this year, as well as other exciting projects in the future.”
Andrews Bowen surfaces have become the first choice across all equestrian disciplines with contracts including the 2012 Olympics, HOYS and multiple championship showgrounds and arenas at home and abroad.
Its surfaces have won favour with riders thanks to the 360° thinking behind the technology. Andrews Bowen’s design team is made up of competition riders and, for them - it all starts with the morphology of the horse. Its surfaces support horses’ natural movement and provide consistency.
The company offers a turnkey solution from visualisation through planning to installation – from a single arena through to full equestrian complexes. It can provide tailor-made maintenance packages for after-care; a combination of advice and the right specially designed Prograde equipment.
