The u25s took over Bedfordshire last weekend for Keysoe’s annual U25 High Profile show (12 – 13 March 2016) and showed exactly why British dressage has such an exciting future. The sport’s brightest young stars took to the stage with their equine partners as they battled it out for the top spot in classes ranging from Prelim to U25 Grand Prix.
Since June last year, 20-year-old Charlotte-Elizabeth Barber has enjoyed unbeaten success with Karl Barber’s six-year-old KWPN gelding, Florisou (pictured) and continued their run at Keysoe. Claiming a personal best score – and the weekend’s highest mark – the duo topped the leader board in the Novice 23 with a huge 79.4%, followed by an equally impressive 77.1% to win the Novice 39 class. An exciting combination for the future, the pair is looking forward to contesting the Novice Petplan Equine Area Festival Championship at the NAF Five Star Winter Dressage Championships in April.
Twenty two-year-old Laura Woodcock also celebrated at the Bedfordshire venue, as she claimed titles with her two rides. An excitable round in the first PSG of the weekend, Laura scored 63.3% with her 13-year-old Dutch-bred mare, Whispers to place 14th.
“Whispers was extremely excited to be at her first show in eight months in the FEI PSG and spent most of the warm up squealing” exclaimed Laura from her Facebook. “She gained lots of 7.5s and lots of 4s - still coming out with a respectable score.”
Having settled into competition life once more, Laura and Whispers topped the Silver section in the second PSG with a solid 66.6%, placing third overall. It was Herefordshire-based Olivia Towers who won the class on 67.9% with Elizabeth Towers’ 11-year-old son of Scandic, Mercian Alegria.
Laura’s second ride of the High Profile show, her own six-year-old Hanoverian gelding, Salvator was also in the ribbons. Scoring an impressive 73.2%, the brown gelding stormed to victory with Laura in the Novice 37. Although not quite hitting the top spot in the other Novice classes over the weekend, the pair notched up huge marks of 75.2% and 76.7%, securing their place at this year’s Summer Regional Championships.
“Today was fantastic,” enthused Laura. “[I’m] Trucking home from the Under 25s High Profile Show with two winners on the lorry!! Salvator [gained] 75% & 76% qualifying for the Summer Regionals. He had four different judges this weekend all giving him above 73%.
Whisper (aka come back queen) contained her excitement to win my section of the Prix St George with 66+% also qualifying for the Summers.”
Huddersfield-based Pippa Corbett marked her first ever U25 Grand Prix with a win. Aboard her own 17-year-old Dutch gelding, Saphier VH Overwater, Pippa scored a strong 65.1% to take the class, just 0.2% above sister Emma Corbett, who claimed second place with her own 13-year-old Furst Heinrich-sired Furst Diamantino (64.9%).
