Stadl Paura CDI3*: Emma and Chequille on form in Austria

Emma Hindle had a worthwhile trip to Austria, from her Brookhouse Stud base in Germany, to compete in the big tour at Stadl Paura CDI3*, 26 March – 1 April 2013.

The 37-year-old double-Olympian rode Chequille (pictured), a 14-year-old breeding stallion by Caretano Z to score their personal best of 68.10% in the grand prix for special. The competitive class was topped by local heroine Victoria Max-Theurer and her relatively new ride, the 11-year-old Hanoverian mare Blind Date 25. Victoria and the elegant chestnut by Breitling W scored 72.78% relegating Germany’s Jenny Lang and Loverboy 26 to the runners-up spot.

In the next day’s more technically demanding grand prix special, Emma and Chequille edged up the leader board with another PB - 69.33% , for fifth. This day also belonged to Max-Theurer who scored 74.52%, more than 3% ahead of Lang and Loverboy in second.

Britain’s Anna Ross-Davies and Pegasus MK scored 65.34% for fifth place in the grand prix for freestyle.

“MK 5th in the grand prix yipeeee! - spooky though - and so a few mistakes,” said Anna on her Facebook page. “Through to the Kur and he's paid for our parking ticket!”

Unfortunately, ‘MK’ experienced a touch of colic which ruled them out of starting in the kür. The recently reunited partnership were on flying form on the Spanish Sunshine Tour at the beginning of the year, and are sure to back on track soon after this unfortunate blip.

Hampshire rider Roland Tong, who in 2012 took the decision to compete under the Irish flag, was at the picturesque Austrian venue for his international grand prix debut. He rode the 15-year-old gelding Pompidou to score 66.38% for 11th in the grand prix and 67.18% for 9th in the special.
