Qualification is underway for the third annual Mount St John Future Elite Championship, which is held each year at the prestigious Horse of the Year show in Birmingham (7 – 11 Oct 2015).
Targeted at horses aged eight to ten working at inter I level, the Championship aims to showcase Britain’s rising stars whilst also providing the young up-and-comers with invaluable experience on the big stage. With past winners such as Anders Dahl with Selten HW (2014, pictured) and Michael Eilberg on Half Moon Dynasty (2013), plus previous runners-up Michael with Woodlander Farouche and Alice Oppenheimer with Headmore Delegate, it’s a competition that is soon becoming notorious for highlighting superstar potential.
For Anders Dahl, the competition proved to be an priceless experience for his horse, Selten HW: “It was his first time competing in an indoor arena, which is one of the main reasons why I wanted to take part in the competition because it’s a super learning opportunity to go in and see how they react before they start grand prix.”
Combinations’ scores in prix st georges and intermediate I competitions at Premier League, High Profile and British-based CDI shows will be used to determine six of the places on offer for the Mount St John Future Dressage Elite Championship. The average of their three best scores will be used to give an overall percentage, with those gaining the highest overall percentage securing places.
A further two places will be offered as wild cards, the recipients of which will be determined by HOYS and BD’s senior selection committee.
