The British team swept the board, winning all classes and securing the team title by a large margin at Hartpury CPEDI3*, Glos, 9-13 July 2014.
The British team of Natasha Baker with Cabral, Sophie Christiansen with Janeiro 6, Lee Pearson with Zion and Sophie Wells with Valerius, ran away with a team total of 463.851, ahead of Canada on 407.718 and Brazil with 406.561.
Lee Pearson was the highest-scoring rider of the prestigious home international, riding Zion (pictured), his 10-year-old Dutch-bred bay gelding. Lee scored 78.20% in the grade Ib team test, four percent ahead of compatriot Ricky Balshaw. Runner-up Ricky rode LJT Engaards Solitaire to earn a pleasing 74.00%. Lee and Zion went on to score 78.86% in the individual test and 83.20% in the freestyle, with Ricky on his coat tails in both.
In the grade Ia it was Sophie Christiansen and Janeiro 6 who reigned supreme. Sophie and her London 2012 partner ‘Rio’ won the team test, the individual and the freestyle with 76.91%, 77.87% and 82.15% respectively.
It was Natasha Baker and Cabral who were untouchable at grade II - they scored 76.20%, 75.80% and 78.85%. Roberta Sheffield for Great Britain won the grade III divisions with 69.00%, 70.19% and 73.00%, and Sophie Wells dominated the grade IV riding Valerius, her 12-year-old son of Flemmingh. Sophie and ‘Reece’ scored 72.52% in the team test, 74.54% in the individual and 80.20% in the freestyle.
Sophie also impressed with new ride C Fatal Attraction, aka Jorge. Jorge is a seven-year-old Fidertanz gelding owned by Charlotte Hogg. Sophie and Jorge, who first competed together last October, placed second in both the team and individual tests.
