Lara Dyson and her six-year old Sir Donnerhall-sired stallion Cadans M (pictured) won an astonishing four classes at the Northern Winter Regional Championships held at Bishop Burton College in Yorkshire, 10 – 13 February 2013.
The promising combination started as they meant to go on by posting a solid 72.30% for victory in the first day’s novice open. The next day, this was followed by a 71.56% elementary open win and 75.09% to take the novice open music freestyle riding to Labrinth’s Express Yourself.
Lara and the expressive dark bay went on to secure a staggering fourth regional title in Tuesday’s elementary open music freestyle with 73.08%, this time to a wild west-themed compilation. Both Lara’s freestyles compiled by Tom Hunt, who famously arranged music for both Carl Hester and Charlotte Dujardin for London 2012.
“I’m rather pleased with him,” said Lara, obviously delighted with her exciting young prospect. “He has a brilliant temperament and he loves the atmosphere of a show. He’s so expressive yet very well behaved, even in the prize givings.”
Describing Cadans M, an approved KWPN stallion, Lara said: “He leads a really normal life at home. He goes in the field, he hacks - we just deal with him the same way as the others. We imported him from Holland in May last year. I was looking for either a young horse or something more experienced but I knew as soon as I rode Cadans M that he was for me - we clicked straight away."
Lara, who trains with Maria Eilberg and Charlotte Dujardin, will this year contest six-year-old classes with Cadans M.
Another rider to secure more than one ticket the winter championships was Amanda Barrett. With Fine and Dandy, her 11-year-old German-bred gelding, she won the medium restricted and the medium restricted music freestyle with 66.85% and 70.00% respectively.
