BD to adopt FEI dressage test changes

Last week the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) announced some changes to the grand prix and intermediate II tests and also unveiled two new tests at a new level, ‘medium tour’. The appropriate BD board directors have consulted with their committees and decided that BD will adopt the changed and new tests as of 01 January 2014.

The change at grand prix level is the addition of a co-efficient of two on the piaffe movements which increases the influence. In the grand prix test, this effects movements eight, 15 and 30 while in the grand prix special, it’s movements 15, 18 and 33.
In intermediate II, the pattern of movements hasn’t changed, just some of the markers where transitions happen. There are no changes to intermediate I or prix st georges.

The FEI have recognised that there is a requirement for a more gradual introduction to grand prix level so have introduced ‘medium tour’ with two new tests, inter A and B. It’s hoped that these will help to bridge the gap for horses and provide additional competition for horses without grand prix ability as well as give younger riders experience at the top level.

For those who ride FEI tests, if you ride these new tests, you will automatically be Group 2 status, in line with intermediate level.

Sport Manager Paul Graham will be in touch with organisers about the changes and to encourage high profile and premier league fixtures to use the new tests to provide practice for those heading to CDIs next year.

The 2014 FEI tests in competition from 01 January will be labelled:

Prix St-Georges (Edition 2009)
Intermediate I (Edition 2009)
Intermediate A (Edition 2014)
Intermediate B (Edition 2014)
Intermediate II (Edition 2009, revision 2014)
Grand Prix (Edition 2009, revision 2014)
Grand Prix Special (Edition 2009, revision 2014)

The tests can be viewed here.
