High quality Premier League classes ran alongside the CDI3* CPEDI3* at the Hartpury Festival of Dressage, 3 – 7 July 2013.

Spencer Wilton continued his run of Premier League success with a double victory at small tour. Riding Goodmans Supernova, Jen Goodman’s athletic 10-year-old gelding son of De Niro, he took Sunday’s prix st georges qualifier. The quality horse lived up to his name and was awarded 73.60% for a comfortable plus 2% lead in the high-class field.

The top of the podium must feel a familiar place for Tetbury-based Wilton and this show was no exception. True to current form, he also headed the leaderboard in the Thursday’s intermediate I riding Jen Goodman’s Zamboucca (pictured), a nine-year-old KWPN breeding stallion by Stedinger. They scored 72.2%, once again for plus 2% lead.

All eyes were on Michael Eilberg and the record-breaking mare Woodlander Farouche (Fürst Heinrich x Dimaggio). Having graduated from young horse championships which she dominated with unprecedented scores, there’s great excitement around the phenomenal horse. The double world young horse champion is creating quite a stir out of the young horse ranks, and at Hartpury, she did not disappoint with an 83.16% victory in Wednesday’s advanced medium 98.

Michael’s sister Maria also enjoyed a successful show. With Lynne Crowden’s Woodlander Rockstar she won Sunday’s intermediate II on 67.68% and she also posted the second highest score of the premier league classes with new ride Royal Concert, a talented 10-year-old owned by Hermione Black and BD marketing director Penny Pollard. Maria and the attractive grey Oldenburg, who looks from the same mould as his father, Royal Diamond, impressed for 76.48% and a winning margin of 6%.

The advanced medium 85 was a family affair. Oxfordshire-based Dane, Ulrik Molgaard, came out on top. With new ride Godthaabs Faustino, a 10-year-old gelding by Florestan, Ulrik scored 74.12% to edge ahead of his wife Henriette Andersen and Flavio, her eight-year-old gelding son of Florencio (73.82%).

Shearwater Young Dressage Horse Championships
Saturday saw the crème-de-la-crème of the nation’s young horses in the finals of the Shearwater Young Dressage Horse Championships. All of the finalists, who will have shown great quality to get through to the finals, rode the relevant test for their age category: four, five and six-year-olds.

The four-year-old class was won by the elegant young stallion Birdsong III, ridden by Sadie Smith and owned by Anni Mcdonald-Hall. The good looking horse is certainly bred in the purple, being by Carl Hester’s London 2012 team gold-medal partner Uthopia and out of Donner Rhapsody, Anni’s Donnerhall-sired international grand prix ride. Birdsong (pictured right) was awarded a score 8.8.

The five-year-old section was won by another Donnerhall descendent, Satin Rouge, ridden by Worcestershire-based Zoe Sleigh. The chestnut daughter of Sir Donnerhall, who is owned by Christine Sleigh, was awarded 7.74.

The six-year-old title went to Sports Horse Centre Carilla ridden by Louise Davison. The graceful grey mare, who is by the renowned Dutch stallion Flemmingh, took the class by a narrow margin ahead of runner-up Carinsio ridden by Becky Moody.
