A busy three days of dressage took place last week at Bury Farm Equestrian Centre, with the premier Buckinghamshire venue hosting its annual Summer Dressage Festival and High Profile Show (25 – 27 August 2017).
Suffolk based rider Nikki Crisp enjoyed a fantastic event totting up four wins with her two horses. The successful crowd favourite Durable, owned by Nikki and Viv Gleave, won the Prix St Georges on the final day of competition with 70% however it was Nikki’s young star San Pedro who earned her the highest score of the show. San Pedro took home a hat-trick of overall Novice wins including the Novice Freestyle; his highest mark was an impressive 77.92% in Novice 22.
Another rider to enjoy multiple wins was 20-year-old Joshua Hill; aboard Maureen Carroll’s Mallards Sirena Josh rode to three wins, with Jacqueline Gallois’ Final Highlight (pictured) adding another to his collection. Speaking on Facebook about a week full of placings and success with his talented string of horses, Josh said; ‘Fantastic but hectic few days at Bury Farm - 16 tests in three days and all horses were amazing. Maureen Carroll's Mallards Sirena on our second outing together had three wins at Elementary and Medium. Boy of Boru RoR in his new career had some great placings in the Novices and always tried his hardest. Jacqueline Gallois' wonderful Final Highlight won his Elementary and was always hot on the heels of Sirena in other classes, finishing with a brilliant second in his first Medium on 69.45%, a fantastic achievement as he's only 6. Both horses finished on the same winning score in the Elementary Freestyle with Sirena just pipping Finn [Final Highlight] on the collectives. Sam Holland's Double Check got a great score in his second Advanced Medium with 69.85% and a win in the silver section. We also finished third in our freestyle. Huge thanks to Jackie for looking after us all so well and Mum, Jess, Maureen, Lorraine and Lucy for for all their help and support at the show. I am so lucky to have the support of these wonderful owners and it's a privilege to ride their amazing horses.’
Fellow Under 25s riders standing out from the crowd were Olivia Towers and Kirsty Imm who both scored double wins. Olivia and Mercian Edjena triumphed in the Advanced Medium 92 and Medium 73 classes scoring 70.95% and 68.82% respectively. Whilst Warwickshire-based Kirsty and the eye catching Don-Davidoff CL took wins in Advanced Medium 96 with 68.55% and Advanced Medium 91 with a fantastic 74.87%.
In the advanced classes it was once again Tahley Reeve Smith and the Sandro Hit gelding Special to top the leaderboards. The successful partnership won both the Intermediate I and the Intermediate I Freestyle with two great scores of 69.17% and 70.25%. The Intermediate II was won by Sara Gallop with Summerhouse Zelham who scored 72.57% whilst Emma Hindle and the 11-year-old mare Romy Del Sol (by Blue Hors Romanov) won a competitive Grand Prix class with 69.17%.
