Youth teams in Moorsele: round up

British youth teams were competing abroad last week across Pony, Junior and Young Rider sections in Moorsele, France, 17 – 20 May.

Twenty year old Gloucestershire based rider Olivia Oakeley (pictured) had a lucky escape from disaster when she realised too late in the Young Rider Freestyle that she had handed in the wrong CD. She still managed to pull it out of the bag with a score of 67.833% landing her in ninth place, taking to facebook to post “Luckily I was quick enough to think on my feet - and knew all the movements I had to do - so improvised the whole test from start to finish! Major note to self: when 2 CDs are in a case, ensure they are both the same! Somehow we managed 67.833% so to say I'm over the moon is quite an understatement!”

In the Young Rider Nations Cup element Charlotte Grundy, Emma Corbett and Olivia Oakeley rode for sixth place out of eight with the Swedish team taking the top spot ahead of the Swiss and Dutch in second and third respectively.

Junior rider Georgia Davis performed well across all tests on her own ten year old bay gelding Richmans Manta, with two third placings and a fourth in her sections.

First timer abroad, 12 year Lara Kuropatwa headed each of her sections above her British class mates riding the experienced international pony Don Joshi. Her highest score was 67.009% in the CDI Pony Team Test and her highest placing was sixth in the CDI Pony Freestyle on a score of 66.542%.

Pony rider Ruth Hole made the decision to withdraw owner Sarah Jane Steggall’s 16 year old stallion Bernwode Brokat after the team test on Friday when he developed a cough. They still managed 8^th on 66.923% but ‘Woody’ was withdrawn from the rest of the competition to help him recover as quickly as possible.
