The British Equestrian Federation (BEF) and David Hunter announced today that David Hunter had resigned from his role as GB Para-Equestrian Dressage Performance Manager and Chef d’Equipe.
Chief Executive of the BEF Andrew Finding stated; “David has been planning this move for some time but, by agreement and in order not to disrupt the preparation of the team, we withheld the announcement until after the European Championships that were held in France between 17-20 September. David has been the Performance Manager for Para Dressage and has acted as Chef d’Equipe for the squad since 2002 and has steered them through three Paralympic Games (including the London Games in 2012), four World Championships and five European Championships and a number of other major international competitions. Under his leadership, the team has enjoyed a period of unprecedented success and has exceeded its medal targets, including winning team gold, at all of those events. We wish him all the very best for the future.”
David Hunter commented; “I have loved working with the team and I have made a huge number of friends at home and abroad within the international Paralympic family. I shall be sorry to leave but, having been in the role for 13 years, I came to the difficult conclusion that now was the right time to move on and pursue other goals and interests and to allow sufficient time for someone else to steer the team to further success at Rio next year. The timing of the announcement has been difficult as I didn’t want to disrupt the team in the run-up to, and during, the European Championships last month. The GB Para Dressage squad is in a great position to excel in Rio next year and by my leaving now it will give my successor plenty of time to settle into the role.’’
