Tonight’s members meeting at Hartpury will be dominated by one topic: the new competition structure. In early February we released a revised structure following the initial round of stakeholder feedback for the members to add their comments to. We backed this up with a series of road shows so we could go through it in person and it was great to see so many of you. Over 1000 emails have been sent and digested and we can now announce a few changes to that original document which take into account your feedback.
The presentation and flowchart show the changes in red so you can easily see what’s changed. The important items are:
- Rider groups will now remain one to eight as per the current structure but with modification
- Bronze sections will be open to groups four to eight, Silver two to eight (three to eight at prelim, novice and elementary) and Gold one to eight
- Prelim points will be awarded as of 01 December 2015 (previous prelim points won before this date will not be taken into consideration)
- Imported horses will be given 15 points at each level up to advanced medium on age
- Riders starting again on a new horse:
- can ride in the Silver section even if the horse has exceeded the silver points limits
- may ride in the Bronze section if the horse has more than 50 points but has not exceeded the 15 points limit at the higher levels
- once the combination has achieved the relevant Regional percentage five times they will then move to the next section at that level.
- the number of regional scores which pushes a combination out of bronze has been raised from three to five
- the points threshold for silver has been reduced to 100 (was 150) or 25 at the level about (50 for prelim).
- further detail on Area Festival, Regional and National Championship rules
We’ve also included some statistical comparison of numbers at Area Festival, Regional and National Championships under the current and proposed systems so members will have more of an idea what the section sizes at these levels will look like.

Once again, the feedback email is your way of giving us your thoughts on these revisions, or asking questions, if you’re not able to make it to Hartpury. We’d appreciate any feedback in the next couple of weeks so final documentation can be drawn up.
Thanks for your participation in helping us to work towards a modern structure which reflects our evolving sport.
