Last Thursday, an array of talented British riders flocked to Buckinghamshire for Addington’s annual CDI3* (19 – 22 Mar 2015).
It was Britain’s own Nikki Crisp who dominated the big tour classes. Riding her own 18-year-old Dutch-bred mare, Pasoa (pictured), Nikki and her partner of 12 years claimed their first international win in the grand prix with an impressive score of 70.38%. German-based British rider, Susan Pape scored 68.06% for fourth place with her own ten year old German-bred gelding, Harmony’s Fiorano, whilst fifth place went to Hannah Biggs with her own 16-year-old Hanoverian stallion, Weltzin with 67.80%
Their first competition on home soil since Olympia last year, Nikki and Pasoa put their dancing shoes on the for grand prix freestyle to score a personal best of 76.57%, topping the leader board for the second time in their international career. Hannah Biggs and Weltzin scored 72.03% to take third, whilst fifth place went to Emily Cousins with her and her mum’s 16-year-old KWPN gelding, Solo Bachelorette with 69.30%.
Speaking from her Facebook, Nikki exclaimed: “Pasoa made it two wins at Addington CDI3*!! Tonight she had a personal best in the Freestyle with 76.5%.....she just keeps getting better! What an amazing horse, what a lucky rider”
Superstar combination, Phoebe Peters and SL Lucci ruled the pony classes at the international competition. Although Phoebe and Lucci, Tracy Peters’ 13-year-old Danish gelding, narrowly missed out on the top spot in the team test with their score of 76.88% - Germany’s Semmieke Rothenberger and Deinhard B took first with 77.82% - the dynamic duo claimed the individual and freestyle titles with their impressive scores of 76.46% and 79.45% (the highest score of the weekend), respectively.
Reflecting on her time at the Buckinghamshire-based venue, Phoebe posted on her Facebook: “SL Lucci was on amazing form and produced some incredible results. On Friday we finished a very close second in the team test (76.88%) to my great competitor and friend Semmie Rothenberger with her gorgeous Deinhard B!”
“On Saturday Lucci and I won the Individual test with 76.46%,” she continued. “I was also thrilled to achieve a score of 80% from the judge at M. This feels like we're getting closer to my ultimate goal of being able to score 80% in all three tests before my pony career sadly ends! To top off the weekend we went on to win the Kur today with 79.45%, he was phenomenal! Cannot say how proud and happy I am with Lucci, he felt simply amazing over all three days of competition, better than ever.”
24-year-old, Alex Hardwick had a cracking time at their first international of 2015. Their clean sweep at Biarritz CDI3* in October last year continued to Addington as she took home both the U25 grand prix and freestyle titles. Riding Sally Hardwick’s 13-year-old Hanoverian, Donauwein, Alex produced a solid score of 66.32% to take the top spot. Paralympian, Sophie Wells and Jacqueline Walker’s 18-year-old Landeur-sired gelding, Pinocchio took second with 65.30%, whilst Pippa Hutton and her, Pammy Hutton and Philip Woof’s 13-year-old Dimaggio mare, Duela took third with 64.93%.
In the freestyle, Alex and Donauwein – or Dudy, as he’s known at home – not only produced another winning test, their score of 73.07% was a personal best at big tour, a huge achievement for the pair.
Alongside the CDI, Addington also ran an invite-only national class, where pony, junior and young riders competed in their relevant team test on the Saturday (21 Mar 2015). 15-year-old pony rider, Isobel Berrington stepped up to the challenge of her second ever junior team test with her new ride, Sally Hoyle’s 14-year-old Welt Hit II-sired gelding, Worldly Wise. Scoring a solid, 67.43% the pair not only showed great progress from their first test at Addington’s High Profile Show (63.24%), they also fended off competition to take the top spot in the class. Pony rider, India Sheriden took second place with Sian Sheriden’s eight year old German-bred gelding, DHI Smart Move (66.54%) and 20-year-old young rider, Amy Nash claimed third on 66.51% with her own ten-year-old Relevant-sired gelding, Half Moon Revelation.
