Young riders from all over the country flocked to Bedfordshire for Keysoe’s annual U25s High Profile show (14 – 15 Mar 2015). Dressage’s brightest young stars took to the stage with their equine counterparts as they battled it out for the top prizes in classes ranging from prelim to U25 grand prix.
18-year-old Glaswegian, Robyn Smith not only took the top spot in the open elementary 43 class, she – equipped with her own seven year old German stallion, Francesco 77 – also claimed the highest percentage over the course of the weekend. A new combination, the pair not only scored a whopping 75.17% in the aforementioned class, they also took first in elementary 57 with an equally impressive 74.29% - not too bad for their second competition together!
Speaking from her Facebook page, Robyn exclaimed: “Absolutely delighted with my two boys at Keysoe U25 High Profile this weekend. Franklin won his first two elementarys on 74 and 75%!!! Such a superstar. Lots of baby mistakes and a big learning experience for him but I couldn't be prouder.”
Robyn also claimed first place in the young rider individual test with her second ride of the weekend, Gail Smiths 17-year-old British-bred gelding, Foold Uz with 72.11%..
It was a family affair in the U25 grand prix as international rider, 22-year-old Bobby Hayler took both first and second. Riding her father, Paul Hayler’s 13-year old British-bred stallion, Aldborough Rubenhall (pictured), the duo scored a solid 67.15% to take first, whilst it was her mother, Gill Hayler’s 16-year-old Welt Hit gelding, Valentino II who took second with a score of 65.00%.
Bobby also fought off the competition with her third ride of the weekend in the medium 73 class. Riding Paul Hayler’s six year old British-bred Hanovarian, Woodlander Forever Amadeus, Bobby claimed first place with her score of 72.35%, completing a successful weekend for the Hayler family.
The prelims were dominated by Dorset-based Rebekah White and her ride, Hannah Biggs’ six year old Weltzin-sired mare, Ladancia. However, although taking the top spot in two out of three prelims with 72.73% (prelim 19) and 73.70% (prelim 15), the duo were prevented from making a clean sweep at the competition by 19-year-old Catherine Brindley and her own ten year old KWPN mare, Adel Van De Kapel, who took the third prelim title with 68.08%, pushing Rebekah and Ladancia into second with 65.58%.
20-year-old Holly Browne and 23-year-old Gemma Abram ruled the advanced mediums. Holly and her own nine year old Danish gelding, Sigurd topped the leader board in the open sections of advanced medium 92 and 98 with scores of 66.49% and 66.18, respectively. Whilst it was Gemma, with her own eight year old British-bred gelding, Spitfire, who took the restricted sections on scores of 67.99% and 64.74%. Holly and Gemma also contested in both mediums, they took second (69.19%) and third (67.43) respectively in the open section of medium 75 with 18-year-old Carmen Gammie and her own Dutch-bred mare, Amalia B topping the class with 71.76%. In medium 73, the aforementioned Bobby Hayler may have taken the top spot but Gemma and Spitfire – or Winston as he’s known by his friends – scored a solid 70.15% to place third in the open section, with Holly and Sigurd taking fifth with 68.24%.
