BD would like to inform members of an outbreak of Equine Herpes Virus – 1 (EHV1) on a dressage yard in Gloucestershire. Four horses on the yard have tested positive. The yard has been isolated and along with veterinary support the owners are taking all necessary precautions to limit the spread. Three horses from the yard have competed in BD competition in the last 2 weeks however those horses have tested negative for the virus at this stage.
Whilst EHV is quite common, British Dressage is taking the outbreak seriously and is putting relevant bio-security measures in place to assist in containing the outbreak. Members are advised not to panic but to be vigilant. Further updates will be posted on the BD website if required. BD would also like to thank the yard involved for their quick response and cooperation in helping the whole equestrian community tackle this outbreak.
