25-year-old international rider, Charlie Hutton, made the journey overseas to the Netherlands for this year’s Maastricht CDI1* (14 – 15 November 2014), which ran alongside the CSI3* held at the Jumping Indoor Maastricht show.
After receiving a private invite, Charlie – Britain’s sole representative in the dressage competition –contested in the two small tour classes over the course of the two days. Accompanied by his partner, Charlotte Dunkerton’s 12-year-old Diamond Hit gelding, Douglas IV, the duo scored a solid 67.54%, to claim fifth place in the prix st georges – topped by Dutch rider, Marlies van Baalen with Zinidi (70.00%).
Dancing to their brilliant Eurythmics-infused music, the pair upped their game the following day in the inter I freestyle to take fourth with an impressive 71.37%. Baalen and Zinidi continued their strong form at the competition to win the class with 75.79%.
“Very proud of Charlie this weekend after Jumping Indoor Maastricht,” gushed wife, Abi Hutton from their joint Facebook page. “He only went and came fifth on day one and [fourth] on day two beside some of the world’s best small tour horses! Douglas is a fabulous horse and they really deserve it.”
