Highest score of the show went to pocket badge holder Lucy Pincus and her homebred seven year old gelding Don Calisto, with a whopping 78.89% in the Baileys Horse Feeds Novice Open Freestyle Music class on Saturday 23 February at the North West Winter Regional Championships - Myerscough, Lancs.
And this wasn’t the only ticket Lucy was taking back to Herefordshire – over the course of five days she and the 16.3hh bay Don Schufro/Lucky Boy gelding scooped up three passes to Hartpury.
The packed regionals saw 44 qualifying tickets in total with plenty of combinations taking home more than two slots for the winters in April.
Ruth Edge topped the ticket board with three winter qualifications – the Albion Medium Open, the Equitop Myoplast Elementary Open and the GFS Elementary Open Music Freestyle. Ruth gained all three tickets aboard the eight year old Dutch gelding Rock Me Amadeus who is owned by Simon and Lindsey Middleton.
Hayley Cowell, Amy Dixon and Louise Baker also took home two winter tickets each.
Special mention has to go to the KBIS British Equestrian Preliminary section A winner Laurie Ibbotson who rode to victory with 70.45% on her six year old Tobiano mare Toronots Muza sporting broken ribs and a chipped elbow!
Always a favourite, the Magic Prix St Georges Music Freestyle was taken by Steph Croxford with her home produced up and coming ride Mr Hyde – the pair has only been competing together since 2010 and are bound to be one Mr & Mrs worth watching in April.
