Sheepgate Equestrian Centre in Lincolnshire will play host to around 250 young rider combinations at the Sheepgate British Dressage Under-25s Dressage Championships next week (18 – 23 August). Dozens of classes will run across the six-day extravaganza, and competition promises to be hot as the UK’s top young riders go head-to-head for top honours.

The Under 25s Championships is a highlight of the young riders’ domestic calendar. Classes range from Young Horse, Intro and Pony classes, all the way up to Grand Prix. There is also a regional team competition, run in conjunction with BYRDS. Over the course of the event, judges anticipate watching over 1,000 tests as riders compete for the Under-25s titles as well as some fantastic prizes.

Spectators are welcome at Sheepgate, and there are superb facilities in which to enjoy the event. There is plenty of seating to watch the competition, great refreshments from the café and of course the well-stocked ‘Tack and Togs’ shop for a spot of retail therapy.

The Under-25s Championships provides a great opportunity to see some of the country’s up-and-coming riders and potential future stars. Many of today’s riders have competed at the Under 25s Championships in the course of their careers, and the experience has been a stepping stone to great achievements.

Double Olympic gold medallist, European Champion and world number one, Charlotte Dujardin competed at the event in 2004. And more recently, all four members of Britain’s silver medal-winning team at this year’s Pony Europeans cut their teeth at this show.
