18 year old Anna Lawson and her 10 year old Dutch gelding, Carentino Z, danced their way to the highest score of the show with 77.78% to secure the Baileys Horse Feeds Novice Restricted Music Freestyle at the Midlands Winter Regional Championships, Addington Manor EC, Bucks 14 – 17 February 2013.
For some it was all about the doubles in this race for a ticket to the Winter Championships at Hartpury in April.
Warwickshire based Paul Friday showed the depth of his skill and versatility as a rider taking two classes on Christine Trendell’s horses – the Blue Chip Novice Open with the six year old German mare Flamingo and then the NAF Magic Prix St George Music Freestyle on 10 year old KWPN gelding Winston Bond – a former ride for Charlotte Dujardin back in 2009.
It was another double win also for Lisa Hopkins and Margaret Phizacklea’s 10 year old Hanoverian Coole Contender, who took both the Albion Medium Open and Spillers Medium Open Music Freestyle in their first ever Regional outing together. The pair also took fourth spot in the Nupafeed Advanced Medium Music Freestyle. Showing such form, so quickly, this new partnership look like a pair to be watched at this years Winters.
International rider Matt Hicks boogied his way to Hartpury, taking the first two spots in the Nupafeed Advanced Medium Music Freestyle with 72.83% on Anny Bachrach’s nine year old Wesfalien Excalibur and then 70.83% with Alison Hill’s 17hh gelding Sheepcote Walnut. Second spot for this class was hotly contested between Matt and 24 year old Rachel Clark who was riding her own 12 year old KWPN mare Urionetta, with both riders sharing 70.83%. It came down to artistic score, and Matt edged ahead by just 3 marks.
