This year’s Horse of the Year Show at the NEC, Birmingham (3-7 October 2018) features the sixth running of the annual Dressage Future Elite Championship.
Taking place during Thursday's evening performance in the Genting Arena, this prestigious competition provides a platform for the UK's rising Grand Prix horses to gain invaluable experience under the spotlight at a world famous international event.
In conjunction with British Dressage, the popular Championship is designed for horses between eight and ten years old. The class will feature a total of eight horse and rider combinations who will each showcase an Intermediate I Freestyle.
Last year's Future Elite was won by none other than Olympic gold medallist Charlotte Dujardin riding Mount St John Freestyle who scored an incredible 84.91%. Charlotte is back competing in the Championship again this year to defend her title, this time with Florentina V.
The eight horse and rider combinations competing this year are:
• Nikki Barker with her own and Viv Gleave’s Durable
• Nicola Buchanan with her own and Diana Reynolds-Hale's Half Moon Dark Magic
• Lewis Carrier with Diego V
• Charlotte Dujardin with her own Florentina V
• Emile Faurie with his ownCafé’s Caletta
• Becky Moody with Jo Cooper’s Eureko
• Alice Oppenheimer with Sarah Oppenheimer’s Headmore Davina
• Laura Tomlinson with Dr Wilfried Bechtolsheimer’s Fallatijn Van Kairos
The Dressage Future Elite Championship will commence at 6.10pm on Thursday 4 October. It can be watched via the live stream plus we'll be posting live updates throughout the competition on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
Visitors to the show will also have the opportunity to see a Dressage Masterclass with Carl Hester during the afternoon performance on Thursday at 4.20pm. The 40-minute masterclass aims to inform and inspire the HOYS audience whilst showcasing Carl’s much admired training methods and mindful coaching skills.
