The much loved Traditional Gypsy Cob Championship returned to Solihull Riding Club for the second year last weekend (21 October 2017).
Taking home three titles from the show was Derby based rider Samantha Wood. Aboard Ashtree Rocky (pictured right) she won both the Novice and Elementary Associated Championship classes scoring 67.66% and 65.21% respectively. The talented Rocky was purchased by Sam in December 2016 and recently became Petplan Equine Novice Silver Champion at Kingswood Area Festival; his skills also extend beyond dressage and into the showing world where he has enjoyed several great results at Equifest and the CHAPS finals.
Sam’s third win came in the Medium Full Bred Championships with her own Lexus II (pictured left), another Traditional pony on his way to the top. Championship success is no stranger for Lexus who won both the Novice and Elementary titles at last year’s event as well as placing eighth in the Petplan Equine Area Festival Elementary Championship this year at Hartpury in April. Sam, a former Pony and Junior international rider, now produces Traditional Gypsy Cobs with the aim of training them towards National Championship level and Grand Prix. Speaking on her Facebook page about her wins she said that she was ‘over the moon’ with her results.
The highest score of the Championships belonged to the Intro C Full Bred winner Remy Bryant with SD Eliza. The eye-catching mare came to the Championships at Solihull in great form having recently scored a win at TOYS; Another super test this time around earned the combination 71.30% and a well-deserved title.
Standing out in the Part Bred Championships were the lovely pair of Louise Kemp and her own Sir Basil A Fawlty who aced their test to become Prelim Champions on a score of 67.18%. Louise bought ‘Baz’ in 2015 and went affiliated a year later.
British Dressage thanks Solihull RC for another exciting Championships; congratulations to all winners and those who took part.
