British riders enjoyed a successful show at Drachten CDI3* last week (2 – 6 January 2013). Two British horse and rider combinations travelled to the Netherlands venue for the first CDI of the year.

Sarah Millis and HP Frontier (pictured), Katja Kuistila’s 14-year-old gelding acquitted themselves well. Sarah and the powerful Australian-bred Holstein scored 67.36% for tenth place in the hotly contested grand prix. The promising combination then went on to secure fifth in Sunday’s grand prix freestyle with 69.90%.

“I was allocated number 13 which gave me cause for concern but need not have worried!” said Sarah. “I was happy with the grand prix, the changes were secure and he was generally more engaged, of course there are still things to improve.”

“Our kür is brand new and this was its international debut, based on the music of Maroon 5 and compiled by Ralf Roder from Germany. Overall it was a successful debut and he coped well with the added atmosphere of a freestyle class. He really is starting to take on the job in hand.”

Lesley Peyton-Gilbert and Timothy Harris’s 12-year-old Woodcroft Garuda K showed good form in the small tour on the horse’s international debut. Lesley and the elegant Trakehner breeding stallion were placed fourteenth in the prix st georges with 65.63% and fourth in the intermediate I with 65.87%.
